The on and off again summit eruption at Kilauea volcano in Hawaii Volcanoes National Park.

Yes, this video is very long.
Skip around or set it and let it play in the background when you're having social gatherings etc...

For those of you not interested in the night activity, you can start at the 2:34:00 mark to watch from morning twilight through sunrise. At this point and time, you'll notice the audio quiet down significantly. You will hear the occasional Nene fly by.

For licensing, be sure to contact Brave Bison as noted above.

In less than 24 hours it filled a 360-acre lava lake up to 33' deep.
There were 30' high dome fountains and one prominent 100' fountain during my visit. The vent that produced the initial eruption was letting out loud jetting sounds. Not very often, but easily the loudest sound coming out of the area. After several seconds of the wide clips, I sped it up to show the directions the lava was swirling.

The true scale of these vents is dwarfed by the size of the Halemaumau vent and Kilaueas caldera.

I was at two different locations that were both about 1.5 miles away.
You'll notice in the last hour or so things get much quieter. That can be due to multiple factors like a change in activity, the sound being projected in a different direction, and wind.
The main background noise is from the cooling surface rock pushing against each other.

I did edit out the constant helicopter noise that starts after sunrise.
I know one is the USGS but after that who knows. The park really needs to address this as it went on for several hours. I hope they're not doing heli tours. Nearly all of the visitors I spoke with found them annoying and wondered why it was allowed. The park and USGS could use drones with live feeds when needed.

If you're wondering why I switch to show wider clips instead of constant close ones, I'm shooting with 2 cameras simultaneously. This is the combined footage.

During the early close-up clips, you'll notice heavy amounts of heat shimmer. this would come and go throughout my visit. It's a 360 acres lava lake so it's hot down there.

I was out there for roughly 8 hours.

Enjoy.

One more long video from this 12-day eruption and then I'll be working backward catching up on previous eruptions including last year's Mauna Loa eruption.

My part of Hawaii just got fiber internet so now I have fast upload speeds exceeding 500Mbps.
The prior 23Mbps was a bottleneck in my production.

This vantage point is right where the trade showers creep in from the east (our backs) and end.
This means it can often be engulfed in a cloudy mist at any time of the day or night.
You're also near the edge of the collapse of the main caldera and its steaming cliffs.
In other words, there can be misty rains, clouds, and or steam present as seen in this visit.

I shot with both of my Panasonic cameras.
The GH5 with the Leica 100-400mm (200-800mm 35mm equivalent) for all of the close-up clips and the G9 with the Lumix 8-18mm (16-36mm 35mm equivalent), the 12-35mm (24-70mm equivalent) for all of the wide ones, and the 35-100mm (70-200mm equivalent).
